"Semantic Search - Fact and Fiction" Workshop

IKS is proud to announce the second IKS Workshop. We will be meeting in Rome on November 12th and 13th, 2009. The purpose for this workshop will be to define "semantic search", and to get a handle on what people want from it.

At the first IKS workshop on requirements, semantic search emerged as one of the major themes that always raises high expectations, but few people can explain what “semantic search” is, as opposed to any other form of search. In Rome, we want to approach this question from two angles:

a) what have we got - in terms of software tools - to search for content? - We invite those who have working systems which they would like to sell or develop further.
b) what kind of information do we expect from our CMS and our databases? - We invite those who have a CMS, but agree that their system is not “semantic” enough yet, and know what they would like to have.

The outcome of the workshop should be a better understanding of the state of the art in WORKING semantic search systems, and a good understanding of what IKS should provide to make better semantic search possible. Note that we are not in the business of developing semantic solutions per se, but we are in the business of making useful techniques available to CMS's which comply with the IKS Architecture, i.e. “The Stack”.

If you would like to get involved with IKS, we would be glad to have you! Please see
this post for information about joining IKS, and the places we really need help.
