How can we - the community - get involved?

Hi IKS followers,

We get a lot of requests from people who want to be involved with IKS, but don't know where they fit. This post is a primer on how to get involved with the IKS Community.

There are three places where you can influence the path of IKS:

  1. by critiquing the report on benchmark design - does it make sense? Does it go beyond the known benchmarks? What’s missing?
  2. by proposing implementation options for the interactive knowledge stack. This is a thorny issue: the “fat” solution would be to develop a full-fledged new CMS which simply follows the architecture of IKS. The “thin” version would be a set of web services so that different systems/components can be woven together to form a stack of functions that adhere to the IKS design. The repository side of IKS will have to address the question: RDBMS or ODBMS or Triple-Store, or a mix of them all? Perhaps we should actually offer a prize for the first prototype implementation of the stack that covers all layers in a convincing fashion.
  3. by taking part in the open source development of IKS. There are four options (see http://www.iks-project.eu/impressions-and-results-first-iks-workshop-0):
  • Semantic search engine prototype
  • Semantic rich text editor prototype
  • Simple user story scenarios
  • Default ontology for CMS-system terms

Feel free to drop us a line if you think we have overlooked something that you feel is important!
